Preview of Lstoneham’s blog at TravelPod. Read the full blog here: www.travelpod.com This blog preview was made by TravelPod using the TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow creator. Entry from: Santa Fe, United States Entry Title: “New Mexico–Santa Fe Albuquerque Amazing Scenery” Entry: “DAY 19, Monday, Amarillo to Santa Fe–Today was a long driving day going all the way from Amarillo, TX, with the temperature rising to 75. Entering New Mexico, we finally feel we’ve made it to “The West”. New Mexico has hills and plateaus that are pink and rocky. There are long stretches with little to see. We lunched at a rest stop where there were many Great-tailed Grackles (not seen in the east) and sparrows. Route 66 runs alongside I-40 as it did it Texas, but sometimes it is only a gravel road. The RV park is on top of a windy hill and has a view of several mountain ranges. New Mexico is constitutionally bi-lingual (English & Spanish) and has 19 Native American Pueblos, 3 reservations, and 22 tribes. DAY 20, Tuesday, Santa Fe-Very different city, all buildings are in the Adobe architectural style, even fast food restaurants and gas stations, soft shades of tan and pinkish brown. Even the Capitol is a low, round adobe-style building, referred to as “The Roundhouse.” We toured the downtown area; it is a wonderful place with historical sites, smaller museums, churches, and a grassy plaza in the center in the Spanish custom. Following the Old Santa Fe Trail from the plaza to Barrio de ****co

“Cervezas and Siestas under the Spanish Sunshine” Kscypher’s photos around Barcelona, Spain

Preview of Kscypher’s blog at TravelPod. Read the full blog here: www.travelpod.com This blog preview was made by TravelPod using the TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow creator. Entry from: Barcelona, Spain Entry Title: “Cervezas and Siestas under the Spanish Sunshine” Entry: “This trip has been sort of a whirl wind; the days have started to blend together in my mind, and even the cities have to a certain extent. And while I absolutely need time to digest the whole experience before I can articulate which memories will stick with me, I can say with certainty, that Barcelona will be prominent in those memories. People should not even compare Madrid with Barcelona. They couldn’t be more different from each other. Barcelona, by a long shot, is more friendly to the temporary visitor (notice how I didn’t use the word tourist… hating that word) and is plenty more glamorous on the surface. That’s not to say I would rather live in Barcelona than Madrid, but to visit? One-hundred per cent. I mean, it sits on the coast of the Mediterranean, displays a unique style of Architecture (Gaudi) scattered all over the city, promises excellent people watching on a daily basis on Las Ramblas, and boasts the most prominent nightlife of any European city (so they say). The tourist never gets bored. Oh and it was at least 10 – 15 degrees warmer than Madrid. You can’t really go wrong with a vacation to Barcelona. I did check out much of the historical attractions and museums in Barcelona (pictures

Nestled in the foothills of the Pinos Altos Mountains at an elevation of 6000 feet, Silver City borders the Continental Divide. The summer climate is cool and comfortable. You’ll enjoy crisp clean air and sunshine and their FOUR GENTLE SEASONS! In New Mexico’s southwest corner, Silver City isn’t the kind of place people just stumble onto. Silver miners sought it out in the late 1800s, and more recently the town’s Old-West charm and high-desert location made it a magnet for outdoorsy and creative types. The historic district is home to casual restaurants that put the area’s green chiles to good use. Outside town, The Nature Conservancy runs Bear Mountain Lodge, a hacienda adjacent to birding, biking, and hiking opportunities in the Gila National Forest. Silver City was recently selected as one of the healthiest places to live and retire. The colorful history dating back to 1870 when silver was discovered above La Cienega (Marsh) de San Vicente. Tales from those early days tell of characters like Billy the Kid, Geronimo, Judge Roy Bean, “Dangerous” Dan Tucker, and the Hearst family. You can exlore the ancient cultures and see collections of distinctive black on white pottery that was developed one thousand years ago by Mimbres Indians inhabiting the Silver City area.

Culture and Intimacy, the Palacio De San Miguel De La Habana Vieja Hotel

]]>

A few days after the end of the year 2000 the tourist company Habaguanex S.A. opened the Palacio de San Miguel Hotel, a newly proposal for culture and intimacy lovers.

A building of eclectic style is located in a very appropriate space (Cuba St. and the corner of Peña Pobre, across the Havana’s seawall), where you will be able to see a pleasant city view from, with handicraft artisans, colonial fortresses and the sea.

That is why, its management is convinced about the appeal of the facility, a truly Cuban feast for the senses. With an incomparable beauty as to the detailed work of carpentry and iron forge, or simply a great cleanliness of the rooms and halls.

The building was acquired in 1916 through an auction by Antonio San Miguel y Segala, born in Spain and illustrious Cuban citizen dedicated to journalism and letters, who made his place a centre for intellectual gatherings, as it is intended the hotel currently to be.

San Miguel was the director of the La Lucha newspaper and he was friend of patriots such as the General Antonio Maceo, known in the revolutionary wars against the Spanish crown as the Titán de Bronce.

This Cuban lodging features 10 rooms perfectly equipped with air conditioning systems, private bathroom, satellite TV and safe, and services such as fax, photocopy and typing, babysitting, luggage locking and parking lot.

As to gastronomy, it counts on a breakfast room and a lobby bar, just because there are plenty of restaurants in the surroundings, also run by Habaguanex S.A. tourist company, dedicated to this branch in the old area of the city, declared by UNESCO World Heritage.

It may be that the best of the hotel is the lookout-terrace San Carlos with an excellent view to the ancient portion of Havana and the bay that tend to be shelter for intellectuals when visiting this region.

With only 10 members of the staff, including the management, the hotel is added to the efforts of giving this part of Cuba elite lodgings, with certain bohemian inspiration demanded by many visitors.

A façade of stones highlights in absolute harmony with ironwork, the white clay in the ceiling and marble plating in baseboards, floors and banisters, a work that took two years in order to function and rescue original tainted glass showcased in the place.

The guests are convinced of the relation between the opportunities of the place and the price is very attractive, along with the comforts and the cultural plan offered.

As a curiosity, each room and hotel hall feature original photographs of that ancient time period, from the collection of San Miguel, and a gathering place could be attractive for those who come to this place.

Since the very moment somebody arrives to the hotel, there is a sensation of arts and culture, with its marble stairs and the nice ways of the staff who carry inside the spirit of the hotel. A truly Cuban feast for the senses.
